Tagalog Verbs Expressing Mental States or Perception

Below are examples of verbs expressing mental states or perception. Na/-ng (p. 28) precedes what is being thought of, felt or perceived.

I saw Tom sleeping.

Lit. (It) was seen by me that Tom was sleeping.

Narinig kong kumanta si Tom.

I heard Tom sing.

Lit. (It) was heard by me that Tom sang.

Naamoy kong nasusunog ang kanin.

I smelled the rice burning.

maramdaman

to feel

Naramdaman kong gumalaw si Tom.

I felt Tom move.
