In Tagalog, enclitic words are words that generally follow either the first word of the sentence or another enclitic word.
The following words are enclitic:
Examples:
Kumain sila ng kanin. |
They ate rice. |
Kumain rin sila ng kanin. |
They also ate rice. |
* Ang personal pronouns are only enclitic when used as the POD (p. 30) of the sentence. When used as the News (p. 30), an Ang personal pronoun is usually the first word of the sentence. Example:
Sila ang kumain ng kanin. |
They were the ones who ate (the) rice. |
