used to show contrast between two persons, things or ideas

Mahilig si John sa kape, si Mary naman sa tsaa.

John likes coffee, while Mary likes tea.

Kahapon si John. Ngayon naman si Mary.

Yesterday, it was John. Today, it’s Mary.
